Plein Air Landscapes – Painting on Location in Gouache
A 2 day workshop in Battery Park, New Castle, DE
A workshop offered through Jester Artspace.
We painted on location in beautiful Battery Park in New Castle, along the Delaware River.
Topics covered included:
- How to choose a plein air subject and create a composition
- how to simplify the landscape by seeing it as large areas of light and dark tones
- judging proportions and solving drawing problems
- developing a painting by blocking in, refining, adding details and textures
- working with gouache paints
- mixing a wide range of colors from a simple, limited palette
- dealing with changing light
- using different brushes for a variety of effects
