Past workshop: Plein Air Painting in Gouache, Sept. 14 & 21, 2019 (DCAD)

TWO SESSIONS: Saturdays, Sept. 14 and 21, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
(Rain date: Saturday, 10/5/2019)

Offered through the Delaware College of Art and Design.

Painting outdoors, students will learn the basics of working with gouache, a versatile and fun water-based medium well-suited for landscape painting on location. Demonstration and individual guidance will teach students how to choose a subject, plan a landscape painting, mix colors, block in, add details and textures, mix water with gouache to achieve the best consistency, compensate for color shifts and use different brushes for a variety of effects.

This workshop will take place on location at Rockford Park. Students are responsible for their own transportation to the site. Paint will be provided to students, but students should bring a folding chair, brushes and watercolor paper or a watercolor sketchbook. A portable drawing board will be useful. A plein air easel is optional.
