Sketching with Gouache – 2 day workshop in DE, May 16-17, 2026

Saturday, May 16th & Sunday, May 17th, 9 AM – 12 PM

Explore the fun and forgiving medium of gouache as a versatile sketching medium. In this two-day workshop, we’ll work from photographs and use gouache to make sketches in a way that takes advantage of the wonderful qualities of gouache.

Gouache (opaque watercolor) is a water-based, friendly and forgiving medium that allows you to work from light to dark like watercolor, or dark to light like oil or acrylic, but requires only water for thinning and cleanup, and can always be rewet on your palette or brushes. Gouache dries quickly, making it a good choice for sketchbooks.

Beginners can learn the fundamentals of gouache painting, and more experienced painters can improve your skills with color mixing, paint consistency, brush handling, painting what you see more accurately, and the representation of trees, fields and atmospheric perspective.

Includes demonstration by the instructor and individual instruction at each student’s level of ability and interest.
